THE RELATIVES OF THE CHILDREN OF BULLENHUSER DAMM

Family Witoński / Grumelin

For many years, Rose Grumelin (Rucza Witońska), mother of Roman and Eleonora had been searching for her two children. In 1982, Günther Schwarberg and Barbara Hüsing met her in Paris. They showed her photographs of the children. Rose recognised her son and then, after another terrible moment, her daughter too. She came to Hamburg that same year: “I really had to battle with myself to come to this place. But here I saw that, after being forgotten for so long, they were no longer.” In 2012, Rose Grumelin died in Paris at the age of 99. Her son Marc-Alain, who was born after the war, has been coming to the remembrance ceremony in Hamburg for many years.
