Kibbutz

Kibbutz (Hebrew: קיבוץ) refers to a collectively organised community in Israel, originally based on agricultural work and communal living. In a kibbutz, members share both the work and the profits, live according to the principles of equality and cooperation, and make decisions democratically. Property is used collectively and social justice is emphasised.

The first kibbutz was established in 1909 as part of the Zionist movement, which aimed to build a Jewish society in the historic Land of Israel based on the principles of solidarity, cooperation and social responsibility. Today, many kibbutzim (plural of kibbutz) have evolved and changed their economic and social models, while retaining some traditional values.
