Comité Médical de la Résistance

The Comité Médical de la Résistance (CMR) was a secret medical resistance committee in German-occupied France during the Second World War. It was founded in 1943 by doctors, scientists and nurses who had joined the French Resistance.

The CMR provided medical and logistical support to Jews in hiding and to persecuted members of the Resistance. It issued forged certificates or identity cards to protect people from deportation. At the same time, it offered ethical resistance to the collaboration of the French authorities with Nazi racial ideologies. The CMR is an example of humanitarian resistance within the medical profession.
