Barbara Hüsing

Günther Schwarberg was actively supported in his work by his wife, Barbara Hüsing, a lawyer by profession. Together, they gave numerous lectures on the fate of the children and designed a large traveling exhibition.
In 1979, Barbara Hüsing filed murder charges against Arnold Strippel on behalf of the victims' relatives, prompting the public prosecutor's office to reopen the investigation. However, the case was dropped in 1987.
It was Günther Schwarberg and Barbara Hüsing who, together with the children's relatives, founded the Kinder vom Bullenhuser Damm association in 1979. Both were awarded the Anne Frank Medal in 1987 for their work. Barbara Hüsing remained a member of the board until 2022. In 2024, she was awarded Germany's highest civilian award, the Federal Cross of Merit, for her life's work.
