The Children’s Carers
The Children’s Carers
Four adult prisoners looked after the 20 children in the sickbay of Neuengamme concentration camp.
They were the Dutch prisoners Anton Hölzel and Dirk Deutekom, working as male nurses, and the French prisoners Gabriel Florence and René Quenouille, working as doctors.
All of them worked in different professions before the war and were imprisoned as resistance fighters.
As witnesses to the “medical” experiments, they too were murdered at Bullenhuser Damm on April 20, 1945.
