Digital game "Remember. The children from Bullenhuser Damm"

"What does this have to do with me today?"

This is a question young people often ask during our workshops. To help answer it, our association supported the development of a digital remembrance game that connects history with the present. Together with the Hamburg Foundation of Memorials and Learning Sites and Paintbucket Games, and funded by the Alfred Landecker Foundation, we helped create the digital game “Erinnern. The Children of Bullenhuser Damm.”

Who remembers what, and why? How do historical events shape our lives today? Why is remembering still relevant? The game invites students to engage with these questions by exploring the stories of the murdered children and connecting them to modern-day experiences like discrimination, exclusion, and civil courage. The combination of historical education with interactive storytelling makes it a palpable way for young people to see the relevance of the Holocaust today in shaping our current society.

"As a relative of one of the murdered Jewish children from Bullenhuser Damm, I think it is important that remembrance does not remain in the past, but establishes a connection to the present. This game has succeeded in presenting different intercultural perspectives and many questions reflect the current discussion about anti-Semitism and racism in society. " - Daniel Zylberberg, member of the advisory board and board member of Kinder vom Bullenhuser Damm e.V.
