Nazi hunters - Journey into darkness
This NDR docu-fiction film tells the story of British soldiers who, in the aftermath of World War II, searched northern Germany for Nazi war criminals. While many perpetrators managed to escape, the British were able to capture some of the key figures responsible for horrific crimes. These included Rudolf Höß, commandant of Auschwitz from 1940 to 1943; Alfred Trzebinski, the SS doctor at the Neuengamme concentration camp; and Josef Kramer, commandant of both Auschwitz and later Bergen-Belsen.
The film focuses on the crimes committed against the children of Bullenhuser Damm, and their tragic stories are brought to life by the sensitive portrayal of the victims by child actors.
